Peter Beynon – Consultancy Services Director

Peter applies his experience of technology evaluation, IP commercialisation, startup leadership and venture investing to assist our clients in determining the best strategy for extracting value from their IP.

He works with the rest of the ClearViewIP team to ensure that all angles are covered and that the results of an assignment will meet our client’s objectives. His other responsibilities within the company include new business development, operational management and growth.

Immediately prior to joining ClearViewIP, Peter worked with Imperial Innovations as Entrepreneur in Residence. There he led the formation and funding of the Imperial College spinout EVO Electric Ltd, where he built its capabilities from scratch, relocated the business and expanded the technical and management team. Having secured three tranches of funding and successfully completed the start-up phase, he handed leadership of the company to an experienced operational CEO.

Previously, Peter held a number of technology licensing, business development and investment management roles during a 9 year period at BTG plc, prior to which he held forecasting, planning and brand management roles at Dell Computer Corporation.

Peter started his career in digital electronics design and project management with Cambridge Consultants and during his career has been central to the formation of three startup businesses (taking CEO roles in two of them), participated in the raising of over £14m of early stage venture funding across numerous deals; overseen the sale of an $11m IP portfolio and was instrumental in the strategic re-structuring of BTG as it curtailed its physical sciences activities during 2005/06.

He is a Chartered Engineer, has a BSc in Electronic Engineering from Southampton University, and an MBA from the Cranfield School of Management.

“What is the best way forward with your IP?”

“There are many factors to consider when looking at the best use of IP. The team at ClearViewIP has seen all sorts of business situations – we’ve worked with mature and proven IP, as well as helping inventors and new companies to identify and protect ideas they didn’t even think were of value.

For me, the most interesting challenges often come when we need to work with clients to clarify their objectives ... and frequently that means helping them to think through the whole range of commercial possibilities. It is the process of evaluating the breadth of opportunity and then identifying the best solution based on our detailed knowledge of IP, that can really make a difference.”
