The Commercialisation of Solar R&D
25th April 2013
Following the success of our patent landscape report on the photovoltaics market, ClearViewIP were invited to present our findings at the recent SuperSolarHub event 'The Commercialisation of Solar R&D' that took place at Loughborough University on 24th April 2013.
The SuperSolarHub is a sub-group of the Energy Generation and Supply Knowledge Transfer Network, one of 15 networks set up by the Technology Strategy Board to allow businesses to network, educate and collaborate across key industries.
After seeing our report detailing the industry's current reliance on technological development rather than IP, Prof. Michael Walls, Professor of Photovoltaics at Loughborough University and Chair of the SuperSolarHub, invited the author, Technology Analyst, Tim Butler, and Senior Consultant, Benoit Geurts to present on 'The Photovoltaics Patent Landscape and How to Commercialise IP', to help educate their members.
The audience was largely comprised of universities, start-ups and spin outs, all developing key solar technology, to whom IP education is invaluable. Understanding the patent landscape surrounding a business puts companies at an advantage as they can begin to identify new areas in the competitive market. By acknowledging the impact of Intellectual Property in an industry, companies can also develop business and technology strategies to place themselves ahead of the competition.
