ClearViewIP’s Commercialisation Director Chairs Panel at The International Patent Forum 2012

18th April 2012

On 18th April 2012, our Commercialisation Director, Colin Hunsley was invited to Chair a panel at the International Patent Forum at the Chancery Court Hotel in London. The event brought together in-house counsel, academics R&D professionals and independent IP consultants from across the globe to discuss and debate hot topics prevalent in the IP world.

In the afternoon of the first day of the event, Colin led a discussion on ‘Managing Your International Patent Portfolio’. The panel included Matthew Goodwin, vice president and global head of patents at Unilever, Maaike van Velzen, senior director of IP portfolio management at Philips and Douglas Graham, CEO of IDDEX.

The discussion was topical and with the inclusion of audience participation, they covered subjects including:

  • How to align a patent portfolio with the company’s business strategies
  • Valuing IP assets
  • How to effectively audit an IP portfolio
  • Determining the freedom to operate within your business
  • Maintaining a competitive edge

As Commercialisation Director, a key aspect of Colin’s work is managing the alignment of the patent portfolio with the requirements of the client’s business. This is realised by challenging how their portfolio contributes to achieving their strategic business objectives and then determining further revenue opportunities through the sale or licensing of patents. This process has given Colin exposure to a number of international patent portfolios and the differing strategies that companies have in developing and managing them.
